TIFTON — Tifton’s JCPenney is closing.

JCPenney confirmed in a press release Friday that the Tifton Mall JCPenney was one of 138 stores it is closing this year.

“Most affected stores will begin the liquidation process on April 17,” the release states.

Roughly 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the closures, according to the release.

There are four other Georgia locations that are closing this year: the Dublin Mall location in Dublin, the Macon Mall location in Macon, the Milledgeville Mall location in Milledgeville and the Gateway Plaza location in Thomasville.

JCPenney announced in February that it was closing 138 stores across the country.
