If only it was as simple as Chuck Norris

Do you recall “Walker, Texas Ranger” on television? More specifically do you remember Chuck Norris who portrayed ranger Walker?

Norris was always a fast-action, kick-butt and take-names character whether he was a Texas ranger or freeing prisoners of war from Vietnam. He portrayed one character called “Lone Wolf McQuade.”

Essentially he was the not-too-big person who knew karate and could clean up a bad situation poste haste without having to file an environmental impact statement. Consequently, he was never in any danger of winning an Oscar.

Now you may have noticed Norris in several television commercials lately that exemplify his physical attributes.

Through the years, the characters he has portrayed have given him sort of a folk hero status and for some viewers, he’s the guy everyone wanted to be for just a few minutes while alone with the school bully.

His prowess for enduring pain, overcoming great odds and generally kicking the snot out of the bad guys has resulted in a collection of humorous memes in this regard.

Let me share a few with you.

• Chuck Norris was bitten by a cobra and after five days of excruciating pain … the cobra died.

• Chuck Norris doesn’t dial the wrong number. You answered the wrong phone.

• Chuck Norris knows Victoria’s secret.

• When Chuck Norris turned 18, his parents moved out.

• When Chuck Norris swims in the ocean, the sharks are in a steel cage.

• Chuck Norris will never have a heart attack. His heart isn’t nearly foolish enough to attack him.

• Chuck Norris once kicked a horse in the chin. Its descendants today are known as giraffes.

• Chuck Norris has already been to Mars. That’s why there are no signs of life.

• Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.

• Chuck Norris’ calendar goes straight from March 31 to April 2. No one fools Chuck Norris.

• Chuck Norris wears sunglasses so that his eyes won’t hurt the sun.

• Before going to bed, the Boogeyman always checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

• There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.

• When Chuck Norris does pushups, the earth comes up to meet him.

I have no idea if there are any comic books that feature Norris, but I’m pretty sure he fulfills the criteria for super hero status in that venue. But please, no cape.

I never really cared for the “Walker, Texas Ranger” episodes. They just seemed too lame as well as improbable in many respects. He held no regard for due process and little things like the “Miranda Warning.” Yet we all like to see the “good guys” win.

Recently I overheard someone commenting on an ISIS attack.

“What we need to do is turn Chuck Norris loose on those bastards,” this person said.

If only it was that simple.

Two more memes:

• Bigfoot claims to have seen Chuck Norris.

• When Chuck Norris was in middle school, his English teacher assigned an essay: “What is courage?” He received an A+ for turning in a blank page with only his name at the top.
