ADEL, Ga. — Two men from Gray, Ga., paddled the first tandem canoe to win the BIG Little River Paddle Race.

The race was held April 27 at Reed Bingham State Park.

The overall winners were Wayne Hale and Terry Donahue of Gray, Ga. Donahue was also the oldest male participant, an honor he won last year too.

Fifty-five paddlers came from as far away as Mexico to participate in the event, which raised money for the WWALS Watershed Coalition and the Friends of Reed Bingham State Park group.

Other winners included:

• First woman, solo kayak, Nikki York of Adel.

• First man, solo kayak, Jay York of Adel.

• First female tandem kayak, Megan Robinson and Lily Robinson of Tifton.

• First male tandem kayak: Russell McBride & Steve Patelski, of Quitman and Valdosta.

• First mixed kayak: Paul Horst & Victoria Horst, of Tifton. They also won last year.

• First male canoe: Paul Tolar of Moultrie.

• First female tandem canoe: Vicki Stanavich & Ellyn Largen, of Melbourne, Fla., and O’Brien, Fla.

• First mixed canoe: Ray Cummings & Jennifer Hunter, of Fort Valley, Ga.

• Oldest female: Kathy Bush, of Tallahassee, Fla.

• Youngest: JRee Bush, of Lake Park, Ga.

• Farthest: Rene Antonio Olguin-Vargas, of Ixmiquilpan, Mexico.

• Fastest Flotsam: Dan Phillips, of Hahira, who was acting as sweep to make sure everyone got to the finish. Last year he came in second overall.
