Maxwell brings new ideas

THOMASVILLE – There’s a new assistant Broadcast Video Production teacher at Thomas County Central High School.

Kristy Maxwell received her bachelor of science in multimedia communications from Georgia Southern University.

She is also a graduate of TCCHS and a former broadcasting student.

“I graduated from here and am happy to be back working for TCCHS,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell says she’s had a love for broadcasting since her time as a student at TCCHS.

“I got into this program as an accident in high school,” she said. “I quickly realized that this was something I was very good at. I always wanted to be a film editor because I enjoy watching the progression of going from a variety of random clips to a finished project.”

Maxwell teaches the first level of Broadcast Video Production, Audio Video Technology and Film I.

“My students will be learning how to produce a radio commercial and also three video projects, ranging from a historical documentary to a biography of a family member,” she said.

This school year Maxwell has both continued education and classroom goals.

“I hope to finish my TAPP program and become a certified teacher,” she said. “I also hope to begin my master’s degree program as well,” she said. “In the classroom, I’m changing the way the class is taught by adding projects in throughout the year. I’m hoping this will cause us to have a higher increase of students passing this course and moving onto the advance level.”

Maxwell has helped bring a new project to the advanced classes, too.

“I’m helping Mr. (Randy) Young implement a short film group project and making radio a requirement for students interested in doing this in college,” she said. “By doing this, they will literally have experience doing everything they will be doing in college.”
