Mayo caretaker arrested for scheme to defraud
MAYO, Fla. — A Mayo man was arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for scheming to defraud in his role as a caretaker.
According to the FDLE release, 30-year-old Tavaress Montriel Thomas was arrested after an investigation began in March into an incident where numerous bank accounts had been fraudulently added to a loan.
FDLE said the suspect was a caretaker for the victims’ son and he gained access to their account and obtained loins using their personal information.
FDLE investigators believe the suspect stole more than $61,000 in the scheme.
Authorities believe Thomas may have more victims. Anybody with information regarding suspicious or fraudulent behavior involving the suspect should contact the FDLE Live Oak field office at 386-330-2840.
The suspect has also been accused of defrauding business owners in Tallahassee of more than $186,500.
He was booked into the Lafayette County Jail on one count of organized scheme to defraud over $50,000.
