Suwannee awarded $3.125M for I-75, CR 136 interchange

LIVE OAK, Fla. — Governor Rick Scott announced Tuesday that Suwannee County will receive $3.125 million for work at the Interstate 75 and County Road 136 interchange.

Suwannee County’s is one of nine Florida Job Growth Grant Fund projects Gov. Scott announced received funding.

The funds will be used to provide water supply and fire protection to the I-75 and CR 136 interchange.

The county also received $3.3 million funding for a wastewater treatment plant at the interchange from the 2017-2018 Fighting for Florida’s Future budget.

The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund was established by Scott and the Florida Legislature last year to encourage continued economic growth across Florida communities.

“We thank Governor Scott for his work establishing the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund and supporting Florida’s rural communities,” Chairman Ricky Gamble said. “Suwannee County is thrilled to be named as a recipient of the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, and we look forward to seeing how this project will help encourage more businesses to invest in Suwannee and improve the lives of our families.”

District 4 Commissioner Larry Sessions added: “This is a great benefit to the county.”

He said businesses have been interested in locating there in the past but didn’t due to lack of infrastructure.
