Recorded call lands Branford man in jail

LIVE OAK, Fla. — Recording a phone call with a secretary at Suwannee High School sent a Branford man to jail last week.

Felton Daniel Howard, 41, called the school Feb. 14 to ask about an incident the previous day involving a student and a school resource officer, according to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The report states the suspect recorded the call, in which the secretary told him she could not provide any information because he wasn’t the student’s parent, and posted it on the “Suwannee County News and Gossip” Facebook group page.

When the victim learned she had been recorded without her knowledge or consent, she requested the suspect be charged with the unlawful interception of oral communications, according to the report.

The report states the recording was posted on the site with an account under the suspect’s name and at no point during the recording did the suspect let the victim know he was recording the call.

Howard was arrested Feb. 20 and charged with eavesdropping — intercept wire portion cell/cordless phone.
