Scholars Academy gets first-hand look at the past
Seventeen Scholars Academy students took in outstanding art exhibits in Atlanta with Latin teacher Charlie Gammel and science teacher Jamie Gammel. The group visited the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, where they saw goddess figurines dating from the seventh millennium, mummies and Egyptian art from the third millennium, and an excellent collection of Greco-Roman art from throughout the Roman era.
After the Carlos, they drove to the High Museum of Art for a taste of modern and contemporary art. Students who participate in Scholars Academy AP Art History classes saw the pieces they have studied in real life. Younger students were enthralled with the 3-D art.
