First Friday concert features Grains of Sand

The City of Thomasville First Friday concert series continues this Friday, July 7 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., in the new park and amphitheater located in downtown Thomasville at 131 S. Stevens St. This month’s concert features the Grains of Sand Band.

Effortlessly blending beach, soul and Motown music, the GOS Band creates a fresh and energetic sound that will have you feeling the warm sand between your toes, city officials said.

“First Friday falls during the same week as July 4th this year,” said April Norton, City of Thomasville Main Street director. “What better way to continue the holiday excitement week than by spending the evening enjoying great music in downtown Thomasville?”

With more than half a century of combined playing experience, the Grains of Sand Band is comprised of seven of the finest musicians in the country. They have performed with artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Platters and Patti Labelle to name a few.

“The Grains of Sand Band is a diverse, seven-piece show band that plays your favorite feel-good music from the ’60s and ’70s,” said Sarah Turner, City of Thomasville events director. “Based in the Atlanta area, Grains of Sand Band features talented musicians that we are excited to welcome to the new amphitheater stage.”

First Friday concerts run April through November and are always free and open to the public. Participating downtown shops and restaurants will be open late, with many restaurants offering to-go specials you can bring with you to the concert. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a night of music in the new park and amphitheater.
