MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority is making headway in its “critical-needed” improvements via two bids, one of which already has its renovator.

Roof restoration at A.F. Shaw and Meredith gyms and renovations at Moss Farms Diving Well and Southwest Memorial Pool were originally bidded out Sept. 13 and Sept. 24, respectively.

The latter had a change of plans that pushed the bid date back, but the gym roof restoration bid was held successfully. Southern Insulation Roof Solutions of Hazlehurst, Georgia, won the contract for $75,436.40.

It beat out two other companies, Team Roofing from Logansville, Georgia, and Venture Roofing of Peachtree City, Georgia, that bid $85,490 and $81,145.60, respectively.

MCCPRA Executive Director Terry Peek said Southern Insulation Roof Solutions won the bid because its price “is within budget and funds are available in the 2013 City SPLOST recreation account.”

The Hazlehurst-based business will install the complete ASTEC Re-Ply roofing system which will apply a “multilayer, fluid applied, cool roof membrane” over the existing roof.

It’ll provide “a seamless, lightweight, energy-efficient, leak-free roof” and a 10-year renewable product and labor warranty, according to the gym roofing bid tabulation sheet.

Materials for the renovation arrived at the MCCPRA Oct. 7. Peek said installation may start as soon as early next week after SIRS finishes its current job.

The diving well and pool bid has had issues, however. Bid opening has been rescheduled to Oct. 24. Peek said this is because of a belated addendum sent out last week.

“The bid opening was moved back to allow everyone to get familiar with the changes [and] the architects to be able to answer questions from contractors,” he said.

Some of the changes include the splash pad being relocated on the site plan and square footage being added to the plan, Peek said.

“There were several different things — nothing major other than moving the splash pad from one location to another — that required reworking the electrical, the plumbing [and] the site plan,” he said.

Peek declined to give an estimate for the renovation while bidding was under way.

The MCCPRA is required to bid any public works project worth $100,000 or more as part of Georgia law.

Still left on the “critical-needed” improvements list are the county ball fields (dugout roof repairs, irrigation fixes, fencing and ball/in-field renovation); northwest pool (fencing); the bike trails (path unevenness, overgrown roots and cracks); and Shaw and Meredith gyms (flooring replacement and a/c repair).
