Summer projects to begin soon for city schools
THOMASVILLE — School may be out in the summer, but Thomasville City Schools will be busy with numerous projects over the students’ two months of freedom.
Thomasville City Schools facilities committee members discussed numerous summer projects Friday morning.
“We’ve got a long list of summer projects,” city schools director of operations Hank Townsend said.
Projects include changing keys to CoreMax for exterior doors at all schools, sidewalk work at Scholars Academy and sidewalk and ramp work at Harper Elementary.
Jerger Elementary also will have work done.
“The whole playground needs to be redone,” Townsend said.
Other work at Jerger includes the school’s pre-kindergarten roof and air conditioning for the school’s mechanical room, which serves as a backup server room.
Summer project work includes concrete repair at Thomasville High School, patio and drainage by MacIntyre Park Middle School band room, district painting and pressure washing, among others.
Projects are split into five priorities.
Projected priority costs:
• Priority 1 — $207,000
• Priority 2 — $44,000
• Priority 3 — $119,000
• Priority 4 and 5 — $55,700
Work for Jerger’s pre-k roof is projected to cost $50,000 in educational special purpose local options sales tax (ESPLOST) funds.
The committee also discussed the renovation project for Veterans Stadium. The project is currently in the permitting and design phase.
Other committee discussion:
• Feedback on what to do with stadium turf once synthetic turf is installed.
• Memorial bricks for the new entry way and ticketing gate for Veterans Stadium. Bricks can have the Thomasville City School approved branding: “diamond T” and Thomasville City bulldog. Two brick sizes: 4 inches by 8 inches and 8 inches by 8 inches.
• Harper cafeteria project, with a projected six-to-eight-month construction period and projected completion for 2018-19 school year.
