Flood warning issued for Ochlocknee River

THOMASVILLE — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Ochlocknee River near Thomasville along US 84 from late Sunday night to Wednesday evening.

At 7:45 p.m. Saturday, the river stage was 13.2 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet and the river is expected to rise above flood stage late Sunday night and is expected to crest at 15.9 feet Tuesday morning.

At 15 feet, multiple access roads to boat ramps across the basin become flooded and widespread flooding of woodland bottomland and adjacent farmland occurs.

Areas likely to be affected include U.S. 84, Concord, Havana, Bloxham and Smith Creek.

A stalled frontal boundary, near record moisture levels, and additional waves of low pressure will provide all the ingredients for pockets of heavy rainfall through today.
