2 hurt in collision on Veterans Parkway

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A two-car collision on North Veterans Parkway affected sent two people to  the hospital for suspected injuries Saturday.
According to the police report, Minnie Harris, 63, travelled west on Doc Darbyshire Road attempting to cross over North Veterans Parkway.
“She stated she looked both ways and did not see any vehicles coming as she proceeded to cross the divided highway,” reporting Moultrie Police Officer Natasha Godfrey wrote.
At the same time, Hernaldo Selles, 81, and his passenger, Yanaisa Gonzales, 43, were travelling southbound on North Veterans Parkway when Harris pulled out in front of him.
Selles was unable to avoid the collision, Godfrey wrote, and both vehicles’ front bumpers collided. Harris’ vehicle was left with disabling damage while Selles’ was moderately damaged. No extraction was needed, according to the fire department report.
When Godfrey responded to the scene about 5:20 p.m., the report read, she found Harris with an arm and chest area injury.
Selles had no apparent injuries, but Gonzales was found passed out “possibly due to the air bag,” the report read.
A juvenile witness and passenger riding behind Selles’ vehicle gave his testimony of the events. He said he saw Harris crossing the intersection without yielding for oncoming .
With his testimony and both drivers’, Godfrey cited Harris with failure to yield. Both Harris and Gonzales have since been treated and released from the hospital.
