Federal probation visit leads to two Grady arrests
CAIRO — Federal probations officers carrying out a routine inspection led to two arrests Wednesday.
While conducting an inspection of a subject on federal probation, federal probation officers called 911 around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the Joyner Road address. Federal officers told the deputies they saw two bags of marijuana in plain view as they conducted their inspection. The federal officers turned over the approximately two ounces of marijuana to the deputies.
Sheriff’s office investigators spoke with one of the two residents, admitted the marijuana was her “smoking weed.”
The resident was taken into custody and transported to the Grady County Detention Center.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and investigators and deputies found approximately 10 additional ounces of marijuana and an AR-15 pattern semi-automatic rifle loaded with a 60-round magazine. Investigators and deputies arrested the second resident without further incident.
Taurus Baker, 26, was charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Kristen Jackson, 33, was charged with one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The Grady County Sheriff’s Office thanked the United States Probation officers for their assistance in combatting the drug problem in Grady County and for helping to remove a firearm from the hands of a convicted felon.
