Feds bust another drug ring: 23 people indicted

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The May arrests of six suspects and seizure of more than four pounds of methamphetamine and cocaine was part of a larger investigation that has yielded 17 additional federal indictments.

On Monday prosecutors announced additional indictments of 16 Colquitt County residents and a Florida man that were returned on July 11. Those indictments previously were sealed, according to U.S. Attorney Charles E. Peeler’s office in Macon.

“We picked up 11 suspects Thursday,” said Lt. Steve Exum, commander of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team.

All of the suspects immediately were placed in federal custody in Albany, he said.

“This is a whole indictment,” Exum said, distinguishing it from a previous indictment of members of a meth ring that netted some 42 arrests, mostly in Colquitt County, and a number of guilty pleas already.

Brad Tuff, 38, Norman Park, is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana, which carries a maximum five-year prison sentence.

Gricelda Bustamante Gutierrez, Ricardo Gutierrez, Salazar-Mirales, Tobias, Spradley and Townsend were all arrested on May 7 in Colquitt County.

While making the arrest of those six officers seized more than two pounds each of cocaine and methamphetamine, 15 pounds of marijuana, more than $30,000 in cash and a number of handguns and assault rifles, Exum said. The Drug Enforcement Team, made up of officers from the Moultrie Police Department and Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office, were assisted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the regional FBI Gang Task Force.
