Tift County’s Sarah Lawson signs to swim with Lindsey Wilson College

TIFTON — Sarah Lawson will continue her swimming career at the college level.

The Tift County Swim Devil committed to Lindsey Wilson College Wednesday in a signing ceremony in the media center.

“Sarah is probably the hardest worker we’ve ever had,” said Tift swim coach Ivey Vickers. “We’re very proud of her.”

Lawson was named second team all-region this season and qualified for the state swim tournament as an alternate. She participated in the state tournament as a sophomore and was an alternate as a junior.

At the 2018 region championships, Lawson was second in the 500 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. She combined with Ashlee Golden, Riley Roberts and Autumn Rice for second place in the 400 freestyle relay. Lawson also swam with the Tiftarea Tidal Wave and place in several events at state in 2017.

Lindsey Wilson College is based in Columbia, Ky. The Blue Raiders finished fourth of 21 teams in their NAIA conference this season.

With Lawson, “Lindsey Wilson doesn’t know what they have,” Vickers said.

Lawson’s father, Tony, thanked everyone for their support.

“It’s been a long road for Sarah,” he said.
