Enjoy ‘Cinema for a Cause’ in Moultrie Sunday

MOULTRIE – If you’re looking for something to do Sunday with friends and family, why not watch a movie and give back to the community at the same time?

Georgia Theatre Company has partnered with local charity groups to host their 16th Annual Cinema for a Cause event.

Customers are encouraged to spend the evening at the movies on Sunday, Sept. 29, when 100 percent of all proceeds will be donated to Variety of Georgia and The Yellow Elephant. 10 percent will be donated to Variety and 90 percent will be donated to The Yellow Elephant.

“We take pride in being a part of every community where we have a theatre,” said Bill Stembler, Chairman of the Georgia Theatre Company, in a press release. “Giving all of our proceeds for one day is a small way for us to show appreciation for the communities that support us all of the time. Enjoy the movies!”

Last year, the event raised $174,285 to benefit 35 local charities and has allowed the Theatre Company to help donate $1.67 million to local charities over the past 15 years.

“Children’s Variety doesn’t really have a home theater. They’re all over Georgia, so we pick them every year. But I personally chose The Yellow Elephant because I wanted to help make a dent in the suicide rates in the community,” said the manager of Moultrie Stadium Cinemas, Lindsey Cooper.

The Yellow Elephant is a nonprofit organization dedicated to erasing the stigma of mental illness in the community and The Variety of Georgia is a children’s charity that seeks to improve the lives of children in crisis through fundraising.

“I think it’s a great event and I hope everyone will come out and support it,” said Cooper.

Moultrie Stadium Cinemas is located on 495 Hampton Way.
