Woman identified in I-75 fataility
VALDOSTA – The identity of a woman killed in a Monday morning wreck on Interstate 75 has been released.
Kennedy Elaine Andrew, 20, of Newburgh, Ind., was killed while traveling south on I-75 through Lowndes County, according to a report from Georgia State Patrol Post 31.
A previous collision had stopped southbound traffic on I-75. An International semi-tractor-trailer was stopped in the middle southbound lane. A white Lincoln Navigator was stopped on the southbound entrance ramp from Exit 22.
Before 8 a.m. Monday, April 19, Andrew was driving a white Chrysler 300 in the middle southbound lane, according to the GSP report.
“The Chrysler failed to slow to stopped traffic and struck the rear trailer of the semi with the front end of the Chrysler,” according to the GSP report. “The Chrysler then traveled off the west shoulder of the roadway and struck the Lincoln in the driver’s side with the front end of the Chrysler. Ms. Andrew succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.”
Lexie Asberry, 20, of Owensborough, Ky., the Chrysler passenger, was injured and transported by ambulance to South Georgia Medical Center, according to the GSP.
The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured and will not be charged in the incident. No charges are expected in the incident, according to the GSP.
“Troopers suspect fatigue to be a contributing factor as Ms. Andrew had been driving over 12 hours,” according to the GSP report.
