Cairo skies to light up for Fourth of July

CAIRO — Syrup City residents can celebrate the nation’s 243rd birthday with dusk fireworks and music at the second annual Concert on the Lawn at Cairo High School.

Celebrations will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at around 9:30 p.m. at the West Thomas Stadium, preceded by a reading of the Declaration of Independence and a performance of the national anthem.

The fireworks display is expected to last between 35 to 40 minutes and will be accompanied by patriotic music.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Festivities will began with music performed by DJ Ososmooth at 6 p.m. on the high school’s front lawn, followed by additional performances by Steve Walden and C6 at around 7 p.m.

The event will be hosted by Cairo resident and military veteran Adrian Felder.

Elsewhere, Whigham residents will have their own Stars and Stripes celebration at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at the city park featuring music by the hometown Johnnie Marshall Blues Band.

Both events are free to the public.
