John Christopher Homan, 50, has been charged with murder and child abuse following a shooting around 8 p.m. Thursday at a residence on 193rd Road.

When Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the residence, they found 36-year-old Jason Michael Bowers had been shot numerous times.

Bowers was transported to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center by Suwannee County Fire Rescue, but succumbed to his injuries.

According to an SCSO release, witnesses said the victim was just sitting in the yard when the suspect approached. Bowers was Homan’s son-in-law and they both lived at the residence.
