Legacy Village seeking gift donations for senior citizens
THOMASVILLE — Legacy Village is aiming to deliver a golden message this holiday season.
The assisted living facility is seeking donations for gifts to give senior citizens in the community.
Jennifer McLendon, Legacy Village executive director, said the goal is to provide a special Christmas for senior citizens of Thomasville.
“In the hopes of that we can turn what may be a difficult season in a cheerful one for these seniors, we will be collecting presents for them and making special deliveries of gifts and homemade goodies,” McLendon wrote in a letter regarding the project.
A list of those in need is being compiled, with 25 seniors currently on the list.
“We expect the list to grow,” McLendon said.
Suggested donations include warm apparel, coats, slippers, robes, and gift cards.
The staff and residents of Legacy Village will create gift bags of acquired donations. Homemade goods, such as cookies, will be part of the bags.
Prior to delivery of the gifts, a golden Christmas tree will be housed at the facility. McLendon said she hopes to adorn the tree with various gifts.
The gift bags will be delivered the week before Christmas.
“We hope to make a difference and provide something for them to bring them comfort all year long,” McLendon said.
The same service project was conducted at the Moultrie Legacy Village last year, prior to McLendon transferring to the Thomasville location. Around 16 seniors received gifts were on the list to receive gifts, according to McLendon.
McLendon said she plans for the project to become an annual event and she would like to see a senior citizen Christmas dinner started in the future.
