Weekend wrecks send several to area hospitals
MOULTRIE, Ga. — Several weekend wrecks investigated by the Georgia State Patrol in Colquitt County resulted in injuries to motorists.
At 5:15 Friday a trooper was dispatched to a two-car collision at Highway 33 and Gene McQueen Road.
According to reports, Julio Rosales Gonzalez, 69, of Moultrie pulled into the path of a 2000 Plymouth Neon driven by 19-year-old Licha Sebastian Antonio, also of Moultrie.
Gonzales, traveling west, stopped at the stop sign on Gene McQueen, turned left in his 2008 Pontiac Torrent in front of Antonio, who was driving north on Highway 33.
Antonio struck the driver’s side of the Pontiac, causing Gonzalez’s car to spin counterclockwise before it came to rest in the roadway. Antonio continued moving and came to rest in the ditch.
Gonzalez and passenger Sanjuana Rosales, 67, were both treated at Colquitt Regional Medical Center and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. Antonio was transported to Colquitt Regional but later transferred to another facility. The spokeswoman did not know where he was sent.
On Saturday, a Doerun woman and a Funston man were injured in a single-car crash on Newton Road, a dirt roadway.
According to GSP reports, Jessica Luckey, 27, lost control of a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, traveled off the roadway and struck two tree stumps. Upon impact with the second stump, the car rotated counterclockwise before coming to rest.
Luckey was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Roger Luckey, 27, was treated and released.
At about 3:36 p.m. Saturday, Thomasville motorcyclist James Burdette, 60, lost control of his 2012 Harley Davidson about three miles inside Colquitt County on U.S. Highway 319 South.
Burdette passed a slower-moving car in the right lane and as he was returning to the left-hand lane he overcorrected while steering and lost control, GSP reports said.
The motorcycle went off the roadway and into the ditch, where it began overturning.
Burdette was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital, where he remained in fair condition on Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
