Bulldogs blank Dodge County in first-round series

THOMASVILLE — The Thomasville Bulldogs moved quickly into the second round of the Class AA state baseball playoffs, sweeping Dodge County 9-0 and 10-0 Friday.

The Bulldogs (23-4) will host Coosa, which took a deciding game three from Haralson County 4-2, in the second round. 

Six Thomasville pitchers limited the Indians to six hits over 14 innings in the sweep. They also combined to strike out 28 batters while walking only four. 

The Bulldogs had just five hits in the opener but drew seven walks and the Indians also committed three errors. Gus Novak was 2-for-2 in the win.

Jacob Jordan fanned nine in 4 1/3 innings, allowing one hit. Ben Rawlings struck out three in 1 2/3 innings, and Jadon Lirette struck out two in the final inning. 

Jordan retired the first 10 batters he faced.

Jason Lann had both Dodge County hits in game one.

The Bulldogs salted away the nightcap with a four-run seventh. Witt Wetherington was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Jordan was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Ryan Renfroe was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run.

The Bulldogs finished with 11 hits. Novak was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Anderson  Everett drove in two runs. 

Gabe Duncan went the first five innings, ringing up 10 strikeouts and allowing three hits. Everett and Jack Gibbs each struck out two in their one inning of work.

Dodge County had only two runners reach as far as second base in the series, both in the nightcap.
