UPDATE: I-10, I-75 back open in Columbia County

LAKE CITY — All lanes of Interstate 75 and Interstate 10 have reopened following a crash Monday afternoon that closed I-10 west and both I-75 north and south.

FDOT inspectors assessed the damaged concrete on the I-10 bridge overpass at I-75 in Columbia County, and installed a containment system on the bridge to ensure that vehicles traveling under the bridge on I-75 will not be damaged by potential falling concrete.

That system allowed the roadways to reopen, according to an FDOT release.

The bridge has been deemed safe for travel by inspectors, although additional inspections and repairs are scheduled in the coming days.

Additional work will be completed Monday night on I-10 westbound once traffic has cleared, although the road will remain open during that time.

The roads closed Monday afternoon following an accident in which a semi trailer was headed west on I-10 when an unknown vehicle cut in front of the truck near the I-75 interchange around 2 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

As the truck’s driver, Treavor Vindaner Hinds, swerved to avoid hitting the other vehicle, a piece of machinery fell off the trailer and rolled down the interstate, causing major damage to the roadway and the overpass. Hinds was not injured in the accident.

UPDATE: I-75 north reopened; I-75 south, I-10 west remain closed

LAKE CITY — Northbound lanes of Interstate 75 reopened early Monday evening after a crash earlier in the day closed all lanes of I-75 travel and Interstate 10 westbound lanes.

I-75 south and I-10 west remain closed, although the Florida Department of Transportation has crews working to try and reopen them Monday night.

FDOT inspectors assessed the damaged concrete on the I-10 bridge overpass at I-75 in Columbia County, and are currently installing a containment system on the bridge to ensure that vehicles traveling under the bridge on I-75 will not be damaged by potential falling concrete.

That system will allow the roadways to reopen, according to an FDOT release.

The bridges has been deemed safe for travel by inspectors, although additional inspections and repairs are scheduled in the coming days.

I-75 south and I-10 west detours remain in place. Southbound traffic on I-75 exits on U.S. Highway 129 and then takes I-10 east before returning to I-75. I-10 west traffic heads north on I-75 before using County Road 136 before returning to I-10.

UPDATE: I-75 shut down, I-10 westbound closed

LAKE CITY — An accident Monday afternoon has shut down all lanes of Interstate 75 and the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in the area.

A semi trailer was headed west on I-10 when an unknown vehicle cut in front of the truck near the I-75 interchange around 2 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

As the truck’s driver, Treavor Vindaner Hinds, swerved to avoid hitting the other vehicle, a piece of machinery fell off the trailer and rolled down the interstate, causing major damage to the roadway and the overpass. Hinds was not injured in the accident.

The damage has led to the shut down of I-75 and the westbound lanes of I-10.

Florida Department of Transportation crews are on scene assessing the status of the I-10 bridge overpass.

“There is currently no timeline on when the roadways will reopen to traffic, but they will reopen when it is safe to do so,” FDOT spokesman Troy Roberts said in a release.

Detours are currently in place that are sending northbound travelers east on I-10 to U.S. Highway 41 and then north to County Road 136 where they will head to west to I-75. Westbound travelers on I-10 will exit onto I-75 north where they can proceed to CR 136 and then back to west to I-10.

Southbound traffic on I-75 will exit at the U.S. 129 exit and follow the local detour signs for I-10.

I-75 shut down, I-10 westbound closed

LAKE CITY — Following a Monday afternoon crash at the Interstate 75 and Interstate 10 interchange in Columbia County, all lanes of I-75 are closed as are the westbound lanes of I-10.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman, there is severe damage to one of the overpasses at the intersection following the crash.
