• 7:15 a.m. — Free bus transportation is provided for any veteran who needs medical attention to the VA Medical Center in Lake City, Florida. The bus picks up patients every Thursday morning, except holidays. Pick-up locations are in Coolidge at the convenience store at 7:15 a.m., Thomasville at 7:30 a.m. behind Chick-fil-A, in Boston at the convenience store on Highway 84 at 7:45 a.m. and in Quitman at the Burger King at 8 a.m. Veterans are asked to show ID.

• 12 p.m. — The Thomasville Rotary Club meets at the Plaza.

• 5:45 p.m. — Early bird Bingo games, sponsored by the Kouncil Club of Thomasville, are at St. Augustine Catholic Church social hall. Regular Bingo sessions begin at 6:45. Prizes awarded and proceeds go to local charities of southwest Georgia.

• Registration for the Thomasville’s 10th MLK Walk and Festival “Keep the Dream Alive” is now open. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., January 18. • The narcotics/vice division of the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office is accepting old or unused prescription medications from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at 921 Smith Ave. The contents of the pill bottle should be emptied into a resealable plastic bag. Leave liquids, gels or creams in the original container and place into a resealable plastic bag. Scratch out all personal identification. Nov. 1 — First Friday Sip and Stroll — free admission and fun for the whole family from 6 to 10 p.m. It’s a great night to come downtown and sip, stroll, shop, dine and listen to some great music. Nov. 1 — The Enlightening Bites Lecture Series features Will Watt and the story of his father during World War II. Bring your lunch and enjoy this stimulating series of lectures on subjects of interest in the community. The Japanese empire was rapidly expanding in World War II and China was under siege. After the the Lido Road was captured and several major ports, the only way for American supplies to get to the Chinese Army was through the air by one of the most treacherous route imaginable — over the Himalaya mountains. This is the story about a young man from south Georgia’s incredible assignment in the skies over India and China. Born and raised in Thomasville, Will Watt served in the U.S. Army Military Police was stationed in West Germany. He then attended the University of Georgia, graduated from Valdosta State College with a degree in speech communications and has worked at Archbold Hospital for 30 years. He is married and has two daughters. He loves travel and photography and has had a love of history all of his life with his main focus of the World War II air war. In 1990, he completed a 100 hour research project on the Thomasville Army Air Base. Complimentary refreshments and drinks will be offered, but you are encouraged to bring and enjoy your lunch.

Nov. 2 — Junior Service League is holding a Family Day Festival at Thomas University’s Forbes campus, 1501 Millpond Rd., from 9 a.m. to noon. Come enjoy the day (breakfast/snack provided) with your favorite characters, bounce houses, ponies, touch-a-truck, pictures with Santa. Nov. 5 — The 27th annual Chicken Pilau Dinner will be prepared and served on the History Center grounds over open fire in cast iron kettles. Proceeds from this traditional southern supper supports the programs and preservation of the community’s rich history. Nov. 8 — The Southern Game Fair travels back in time bringing family and community together to benefit land conservation. Nov. 9 — Hands & Hearts for Horses is holding its second annual HHH Veterans Day 5K and 1-mile Fun.
