T.J. Maxx coming to Thomasville

THOMASVILLE — Thomasville shoppers soon will be able to shop at a new retailer for clothing choices.

T.J. Maxx, an off-price retailer, is in the works to come to the Gateway Shopping Center.

Greg Gibbs, Gateway owner, said the new retailer will be located at 15029 US Highway 19 S. The location was formerly Goody’s.

Gibbs, also of Gibbs Realty Corporation in Tallahassee, Florida, said based on a schedule he received from T.J. Maxx, wall signage for the store front and marquee signage is projected to arrive the beginning of September. “Coming soon” signs are expected mid-September.

The store’s opening is projected in October, Gibbs said based on the same schedule.

“We’re happy to have them,” he said.

Said Shelley Zorn, Thomasville Payroll Development Authority executive director, “We’re very excited. It’ll create new jobs.”

Zorn added the retailer will be a new investment for Thomas County.

Applications are being accepted for store staffing.

A company flyer appeared on the store front, and a hiring event is posted on indeed.com for applying at the Georgia Department of Labor Thomasville Career Center.

The hiring event will be conducted on Sept. 7 and 8, from 9 a.m-5 p.m., at the 403 N Broad St. career center. The event will aim to hire 70 people, according to Zorn.

According to tjx.com, T.J. Maxx began in 1977. There are more than 3,800 T.J. Maxx stores located worldwide, according to the company.
