Grady school board OKs facilities expenditures

CAIRO — The Grady County Board of Education has approved expenditures for two facilities at Cairo High School. 

The first was a roofing bid for Cairo High School’s media center. Totaling to $15,166.30, the bid was from Bainbridge Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. 

The school board also approved a $5,750 bid for a new air conditioning unit for the high school’s Agriculture Building. 

The unit is almost 35 years old, said Dave Mitchell, Grady Schools technician’s supervisor. 

“It’s served us well,” he said. 

In other facility business, the board also approved the fiscal year 2019 capital outlay application. 

According to the application, the school district is estimated to receive more than $1.7 million in state funding for the modernization of the high school’s vocational building. The school district also will receive an estimated $321,000 in funding for the Northside Elementary cafeteria.  

In other business, the Grady School Board: 

• Approved a promotion and retention policy change. 

• Approved 2017-18 superintendent’s travel, totaling to $5,472.08. 

• Approval of accounts payable, totaling to $705,578.81 

• Approved two personnel recommendations. 

• Approved September field trips and fund raisers. 

• Approved spending up to $30,400 for new choir risers, shell and microphones for the Cairo High School Auditorium and choral department. 

• Rescheduled October board meeting to Oct. 17, 6:30 p.m.
