Grady County presented superintendent applicants
CAIRO — The Grady County School Board of Education members were presented the 23 completed applications for the superintendent position at a January 19 called board meeting.
Chairman Gerald Goosby said that the board was working alongside the Georgia School Board Association in the search for a new superintendent. According to Goosby, the GSBA has aided applicants navigate the application portal and assisted in the completion of the required materials.
“The search is going great,” said board member Derrick Majors.
In December 2021, the board opened a survey for the community, with a similar survey being done by board members, a mirrored experience, Goosby said, that was intended to provide insights into what the community and board wanted in a superintendent.
“We wanted to gauge the temperature of the community as for what they were looking for,” said Goosby.
Originally scheduled for January 11, the meeting was rescheduled due to an absence of a member important to the proceedings, according to Goosby. Majors stated that the absence was due to concerns over said individual’s exposure to COVID-19.
Goosby said that time would be given for members of the board to look over the applications before another meeting would be scheduled to narrow down applicants.
According to the GSBA website, the GSBA search leader for Grady County is Bill Sampson and interviews for the superintendent position have not been scheduled yet.
The search for a new superintendent began when Dr. Kermit Gilliard left after six years leading the Grady County School System. Dan Broome, the system’s chief financial officer, has been the interim superintendent since late October.
