Golf tournament

is Thursday

You can still register to play in the upcoming Cairo-Grady County Golf Tournament which will be held this Thursday at the Cairo Country Club. The entry fee for the tournament is $240 for a four person team which includes the carts, refreshments after the tournament, a goodie bag and a chance to win door prizes.

For the lucky golfer who shoots a hole-in-one on the 14th holes, a $10,000 jackpot will be rewarded. Awards for first, second third place teams will be given away as well as individual awards for longest drive, closest to the pin and the hole-in-one contest. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

5K Turkey Trot

is Nov. 22

Auntie Ann’s Daycare will be hosting their first ever 5K Turkey Trot Run/Walk on Saturday, Nov. 22 beginning at 8 a.m.

The event will begin at Southside Elementary School with registration starting at 7. For those who register by November 7th, the entry fee is $25 per person with the fee going up to $30 after Nov. 7. The first 150 people to preregister will also receive a free T-shirt. Trophies for the top three males and females will be awarded with cash prizes to be given away for the first place male and female runners.

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot will be used to purchase curriculum books, playground equipment and fund a scholarship to be given away annually.

Author to hold booksigning

Author Elizabeth Powe will be returning to Whigham for a special book signing to be held at Bond’s L-3 Gifts on Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Powe will sign copies of her latest book, ‘The Fear Within’ which is based on Matthew 11:28. Elizabeth describes the book as a way for readers to get a unique perspective of the spiritual warfare that occurs around us each day.

Farm Bureau meets Thursday

The Grady County Farm Bureau will be having its annual meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Conference Center beside the County Office. All Farm Bureau members are invited to attend.

Event benefits academy

The Foundations Performance Academy will be holding a pulled pork barbeque fundraiser on Thursday, Nov. 20.

The dinner will feature the ‘Famous Gary Jones’ pulled pork BBQ, baked beans, cole slaw and dessert. Plate are $8 each and can be picked up at the academy which is located at 242 5th St., N.E. across from the Department of Labor.

Boys & Girls Club to hold gala

The Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club of Grady County will be holding their largest fundraising event of the year on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Grady Cultural Center.

ollowing dinner, the Diamond Affair will feature FSU’s Head Baseball Coach, Mick Martin and a world record holding power lifter, Dr. Judd Biasotto, as the keynote speakers.

Proceeds from the event provide after-school programming, services and opportunities for youth and teen members, ages 6-18.

More than 90 young people are served at the Boys & Girls Club in Cairo each week.

Cairo Christmas parade Dec. 4

The Cairo-Grady Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants of Cairo will present the annual Cairo Christmas parade on Thursday, Dec. 4 starting at 7 p.m.

The theme for this year’s parade is ‘Cairo’s Night of Twinkling Lights” and will feature a variety of entries from local schools, churches, businesses and civic groups.

FFA having

annual fruit sale

Members of the Cairo High School FFA are currently selling fruit and Washington apples for the holidays.

All fruit is certified U.S. No. 1 and comes packed in 4/5 bushel boxes weighing 40-42 pounds. Funds raised by the fruit sale will be used for FFA projects and activities.

To purchase the fruit, contact any FFA member or call the Vo Ag Department at Cairo High school at 377-6217.

Fish fry to benefit

Clifford Bell

There will be a fenefit fish fry to help with the medical expenses of Clifford Bell on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the home of Bobby and Jean Mitchell, located behind the Burger King in Cairo.

The fish fry will feature mullet and catfish plates with all the fix ins for $8 per plate.

Plates can be picked up from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Notary public training offered

Debbie Kines, the Clerk of Superior Court of Grady County and the Georgia Superior Courts Clerks Cooperative Authority will be offering a Free Notary Public Training on Nov. 19 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., in the courtroom on the second floor of the Grady County Courthouse.

The workshop is open to the public and is highly recommended to anyone who is a notary or is considering becoming a notary.

Group seeks Christmas photos

The Syrup City Players are seeking old family photos of Christmas in Cairo to use as part of this year’s Cairo Christmas Follies on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6.

TOSAC to feature new play

Thomasville On Stage and Company (TOSAC) will be presenting ‘Love on Mars,’ the new comedy from local playwright and author Jeff Lovett over two weekends in the month of November.

The play is about the first couple to travel together to Mars where they fall in (and out) of love during their stay on the Red Planet.
