Registration being held for fall sports

The Grady County Recreation Department is currently holding registration for the 2022 Fall Sports season. Registration is being held for Smurf flag football, 8U Tackle football, 10U Tackle football, 12U Tackle football, Cheering and Soccer. For more information on the age control dates and registration fees, please call the Rec Department at 377-8221 or stop by the office located at 1816 N. Broad St. to register.

Football season tickets on sale

The first home game of the 2022 football season will be this Friday, Aug. 26 as the Cairo High School Syrupmakers host Monroe at West Thomas Stadium. Season tickets will continue to be on sale for the season through Friday for the seven home games planned for this year. The cost of the season tickets are $70 with a choice of the middle section and upper deck chairback seats. General admission tickets for the game are also on sale at the Cairo High School office for $10 each.

Anime Club meets this Thursday

The Anime Club at the Roddenbery Memorial Library will be meeting this Thursday, Aug. 25h at 3:30pm in the Teen area of the library. All young people, 12-18 who love anime are invited to attend.

Class of 1982 to hold 40th reunion

Plans are currently being made for the 40th class reunion for the Cairo High School Class of 1982. Classmates are encouraged to join the Cairo High School Class of 1982 Facebook page or call Renn West at 327-5827 or Phillip Drew at 378-5580 for more information.

Family and Friends Day planned

The Solid Rock M.B. Church will be holding their annual Family and Friends Day on Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. Deacon Larry Williams, Brother Aaron Johnson, Rev. Curnell Henry and the entire congregation invite everyone in the community to attend.

Used bookstore open Saturdays

The Friends of the Library Used Bookstore at the Roddenbery Memorial Library is now open every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come support the library by purchasing books.

Cairo High Class of ‘72 plans reunion

The Cairo High School Class of 1927 will be having its 50th class reunion on Oct. 21-22. Hispanic Heritage Month Parade Ccoming in September

A new event celebrating the different cultures represented by Cairo’s Hispanic community is planned for next month in Downtown Cairo. The Hispanic Heritage Month Parade will be held on Sept. 17 and sponsored by the Mission Vision Foundation. The parade will begin at 11am and begin at the Roddenbery Memorial Library, travel down South Broad Street and turn onto MLK Jr. Avenue.

Faith Christian Center to host guest speaker Kim Croft on Thursday

Faith Christian Center on Hwy. 188 in Cairo invites everyone in the community to come hear Kim Croft on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. Croft has led Bible studies, home groups, and corporate worship at retreats and ministry engagements and is a very sought-after speaker on the Ministry of the Holy Spirit and Divine Healing. Everyone in the community is invited to this special evening.

The Roddenbery Memorial Library has a variety of programs and activities for children including Giggles and Wiggles for ages 6 months to 2 years on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. and Saturday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m.

Annual golf

tournament set for September

The 23rd annual Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Tired Creek Golf Course in Cairo. The 4-Man Scramble tournament will offer cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place team plus prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin and a hole-in-one prize.
