Hunting class to be taught 

For anyone who wishes to get a hunting license and needs to take the required safety course, Go Outdoors Georgia will be offering the Hunters Safety Certifications Course at Cairo High School on Oct. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is required to participate in the course by Wednesday, Sept. 29. Library offers Take & Make 

Beginning October 1, the Roddenbery Memorial Library invites all children to stop by the library each week to pick up your free Take & Make craft to go! Different crafts will be available for ages 0 to 4 and 5 to 11, limit one per child while supplies last.

Chamber to sponsor golf tournament

The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce will be holding its 22nd annual Golf Classic on Oct. 14 at Tired Creek Golf Course. Cash Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place teams with prizes for the longest drive, closest to pin and hole-in-one. The Marine Band concert scheduled for Oct. 19 has been canceled.

Career fair to be held at local manufacturer

Nivel Manufacturing will be sponsoring a Career Fair on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those who are seeking a career with the local manufacturing company. The event will include a free lunch, giveaways and on the spot interviews for those who attend. The Career Fair will be held at Nivel Manufacturing, located at 2051 2nd Ave, NE in Cairo.

Grady EMC seeks to verify addresses for refund checks

If you were a member of Grady EMC during the years of 1955-1972, you may be eligible for a Capital Credit refund check. The local utility co-op is seeking past members who are no longer Grady EMC members or have moved to different addresses in order to send notices for the refunds and verify current mailing addresses. Tickets on sale for TU’s Casino Night

Thomas University and local alumni and Grady County businesses invite everyone to join together and help raise money for scholarships to benefit local students in our community during their annual ‘Casino Night: A Masquerade Dinner’ fundraising event to be held at the Grady Cultural Center on Saturday, Oct. 16. The event will feature a silent and live auction for several items including a weekend trip to Lake Seminole, a Goldman Kobler bracelet, a wood carved American flag, tickets to an FSU football game and more. Tickets for the event are $50 for individuals and $75 for couples and can be purchased through October 1st from any member of the Planning Committee or at the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce, Cairo Chemical & Supply, Southern Promotions and Apparel, and online at thomasu.edu/tickets/casinonight.

Koyo to sponsor Poker Run

The third annual “Riding Miles to Support Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club” Poker Run will be sponsored by Koyo on Saturday, Oct. 2 with all proceeds to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club in the community. The event is open to all bikers in the area. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with run time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gatorade and water will be available along the route. The fee to ride is $15 for singles and $20 for doubles. Chicken Pilau plates will also be sold at Koyo from 1 to 3 p.m. for $8 per plate. To register, call 377-6650, ext 1202 or ext 1440.
