Jack Hadley Black History Museum announces Black History Month events

The Jack Hadley Black History Museum announces its 2022 Black History Month events.

Join the museum virtually on Zoom every weekend for a special presentation of its second annual Talk Series, with special guest moderator Dr. Thomas Aiello from Valdosta State University: 

The first will be February 5, at 6 p.m., with Thomas County native and assistant surgeon general of the U.S. Rear Admiral Cedric B. Guyton, who will be speaking on his life and Black health and wellness.

Dr. Cheryl Mango of Virginia State University will discuss the history of Historically Black Colleges and Universities on February 12 at 6 p.m. 

Dr. Jeffery Sammons of New York University will speak on “Harlem’s Rattlers and the Great War” on February 19, at 7 p.m.

The Equal Justice Initiative will have a special presentation February 27 at 6 p.m.

The EJI is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.

There will be two in-person events, beginning with the eighth annual Buffalo Soldier Heritage Festival and Thomasville/Thomas County Public Safety Day at the Jack Hadley Black History Museum. The guest speaker will be Dr. Daryl Crenshaw, Archbold Medical Center chief of staff. 

The event will take place February 19 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and will feature free admission to the museum, free hot dogs and drinks sponsored by the Thomasville Police Department, free snacks and dessert and police and fire department demonstrations.

Wiregrass Gallery, at 130 E. Jackson St., is holding a special auction to benefit the Imperial Hotel on February 26 from 5-7 p.m.
