Protest takes to Jackson Street on Sunday
THOMASVILLE — About 90 people took part in a march Sunday calling for an end to racial inequality and police brutality.
Marchers went from the the intersection of Jackson Street and Glenwood Street to approximately the intersection of Clanton and Jackson. Thomasville Police Department officers provided an escort for the march and directed traffic away from the walkers.
Lexi Kilgore was grateful for those who turned out for the march.
“We can’t thank them enough,” she said. “We appreciate you.”
Said Nikki Young, “We need more people to come out.”
Kilgore also expressed her appreciation for the Thomasville Police Department’s cooperation.
TPD Chief Troy Rich held an extensive question-and-answer session with marchers before they began their walk.
Chanting “Black lives matter,” “No justice, no peace,” “Say his name — George Floyd,” and “Say her name, Breonna Taylor,” marchers drew several honks of support from passing motorists.
“The goal is to get officials to see what we’re doing so they can make a change in their positions,” Young said.
