Playground equipment purchased for Weston, MacIntyre parks
THOMASVILLE — Many hours of outdoor fun are in store for children frequenting two Thomasville city parks.
Thomasville City Council approved new playground equipment for Weston and MacIntyre parks. The equipment is expected to arrive on Oct. 26.
The equipment will be paid for with funding from the 2012 special purpose local option sales tax.
With $81,000 budgeted for Weston Park equipment, the council approved a bid of $80,445 from Bliss Products.
Playground equipment for MacIntyre Park also was purchased from Bliss, with a bid of $88,571, an amount considerably higher than the $45,262 budgeted. City government will use money saved on other recreation projects to fund the additional $43,308 in the MacIntyre purchase.
“The master plan for the parks called for updated equipment,” said Steve Sykes, city manager/utilities superintendent.
At Weston, the park will include multiple swings, a spinner bowl, slide and safety mulch under the equipment. A 12-inch-high border around the playground area will hold the mulch in place.
A cedar play structure also is part of the Weston equipment.
At MacIntyre Park, new equipment includes multiple swings, a spinner bowl, a 100-foot zip line, border and mulch and a playground equipment complex.
The city will pay the company from which the equipment was purchased $10,000 to install it.
