Railroad crossing work to close 129 next month

LIVE OAK, Fla. — Due to a railroad crossing rebuild, U.S. Highway 129 will be closed in Live Oak for more than two weeks next month.

The project by the Florida Department of Transportation, in conjunction with CSX, is scheduled to begin April 3, closing at 9 a.m. FDOT expects to reopen U.S. 129 (Ohio Ave.) at the railroad crossing Saturday, April 20. Weather and unforeseen circumstances could delay or alter the project and construction schedule.

During that time, U.S. 129 will be closed to all traffic at the railroad crossing and a detour utilizing Perimeter Road (County Road 49) will be in effect.

During construction, the railroad tracks are expected to be raised by a half-inch and the current crossing surface will be replaced by a new heavy duty concrete panel crossing surface. Additional work will include milling and resurfacing of the roadway near the railroad tracks and some sidewalk work. The total cost of the project is approximately $350,000.

The railroad crossing surface was last replaced in October 2007.
