Georgia Museum of Agriculture to hold annual County Fair
TIFTON — The Georgia Museum of Agriculture (GMA) will host the Wiregrass Farmers Market annual County Fair on Saturday, July 13 from 9 – 11:30 a.m.
This is the fourth year the non-profit organization Wiregrass Farmers Market has hosted their annual County Fair. The farmers market started because there wasn’t one close enough to the local area, according to the Market Manager Randi Walden at Wiregrass Farmers Market.
Vendors will set up their station inside the Peanut Museum so people can sample and purchase fresh produce grown locally. The Wiregrass Farmers Market recruits vendors from local farms between Fitzgerald and Moultrie.
The categories for this year’s competition at the County Fair will be prettiest tomato, best salsa, fresh flower arrangement, homemade cakes, sweet bread, and best cookies competition for children under the age of 12.
“Our prizes this year will be of course bragging rights for having the best,” said Walden. “We also give away gift certificates for the market so they can go shopping with our vendors and buy some good stuff.”
Vendors and anyone else interested are allowed to participate in the judged categories at the event. Registration for the judged events is open from now until 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
“Vendors have the opportunity to enter [the competition] but they don’t have to,” said Walden. “A lot of our entries come from people in Tifton and the surrounding area and we have several entries that we are excited about.”
The Farmers Market is open every Saturday from April through July and the last Saturday farmers market will be on July 27 this year. The market will open back up in October and run through the end of November.
The County Fair will have the vendors set up inside the Peanut Museum attached to Country Store at the GMA. The address for the GMA is 1392 Whiddon Mill Road.
