Cheer & Toy Shop brings holiday joy to children

MOULTRIE, Ga. — As the holiday season approaches, the Children’s Cheer and Toy Shop is preparing for its annual toy giveaway for the children of Colquitt County. The giveaway has been a staple in the community since the early 1970s, and organizers look to continue the tradition this year.

The Children’s Cheer and Toy Shop is a nonprofit agency that is run by social workers at different schools in the Colquitt County area, and the main goal of the organization is to ensure children are able to enjoy Christmas despite financial burdens.

The organization has received multiple donations from citizens and organizations recently, including Elev8, which raised more than $3,000, and the Peer Leadership program at Colquitt County High School will host a seniors vs. staff football game with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards the organization.

Everything is going right on schedule when it comes to gifts except in the 9-12 age group, for which the organization doesn’t have enough toys, but director Angela Kling said she isn’t worried at all.

As a parent, Kling understands what it feels like to see her children smile on Christmas and she wants to do her part in making sure other parent share that same feeling also.

“What we do here helps out the community and our families,” Kling said. “As a parent, myself I enjoy looking at my kids enjoy there Christmas, and I want to help spread that joy here.”

If you have signed up for Children’s Cheer Toy Shop giveaway, the distribution will begin on Dec. 14. If you would like to donate new or slightly used toys, take them to the shop at 589 Industrial Drive or call 229-890-6184 ext 5.
