Gilmer to pastor Calvary Methodist

Grady County’s Calvary Methodist Church will disaffiliate from from the Southwest Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church Aug. 21 and has announced the Rev. Dr. W. Gerry Gilmer of Thomasville as its new pastor.

Gilmer is a graduate of Emory University’s Candler Seminary and retired pastor from John Wesley United Methodist Church in Tallahassee and former faculty member at Florida State University and vice-president of Thomas University.

He holds degrees from FSU, Auburn University and Gulf State College. He has served appointments in the United Methodist’s Florida Conference, its Alabama-Northwest Florida Conference and its North Alabama Conference.

Pastor-Parish Relations Chair Connie Bailey made the announcement after church’s Sunday worship service.

The church holds 11 a.m., services each Sunday at 4581 Old 179 S. Hwy., Calvary.
