Hands on Thomas County unveils new hub for community engagement

THOMASVILLE- Hands On Thomas County marked a milestone on December 6, 2023, as community members gathered for the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the non-profit’s new property, located at 1213 East Jackson Street. With a great turnout of over 60 attendees, the event was a celebration of community spirit and the organization’s dedication to service. True to its mission, attendees also engaged in a pop-up volunteer project, filling more than 70 Christmas stockings for the seniors at Scott Senior Center.

The momentous occasion, hosted in partnership with Imagine Thomasville, officially christened the new building that will serve as the hub for Hands On Thomas County’s future endeavors. Currently celebrating its 20-year anniversary, HOTC has been a cornerstone of service in Thomas County, and the purchase of this property sets the stage for even greater impact in the years to come.

The new facility will house a range of community-oriented spaces, including a Tool Bank which will provide valuable resources free to local organizations and individuals, fostering a collaborative approach to enabling more projects that benefit both non-profits and individuals; and an activity center designed to host volunteer projects, and meetings. Notably, the activity center is available free of charge to non-profit and partner organizations for meetings of up to 28 people. For the public, a small donation provides access to the space, inclusive of tables, chairs, and linens. Other ideas for the new property include a cottage kitchen and a communal garden to promote food security, and hands-on workshops to help create a more skilled volunteer.

“We went from 600 square-feet to 2800 on more than ½ an acre,” said Executive Director Angela Kiminas. “Not only do we have more space to work, but more space for volunteers and projects. We envision this facility as a hub of volunteer activity and community connection, allowing us to invite the public into our home to work on projects and engage with each other. It’s a game changer that will help us better serve Thomas County now and over the next 20 years.”

As Hands On Thomas County looks to the future, the organization invites the community to visit the new facility and join in their mission of service by volunteering, utilizing their new community spaces, and supporting their initiatives.
