Keyvon Webb leads Trojans with team-first approach

JASPER, Fla. — There have been numerous trials and tribulations for the Hamilton County football team in the past four years.

The Trojans have gone through three coaching changes, multiple players transferring out of the system and four straight losing seasons. All of this coming after HCHS advanced to the state championship game in 2014.

Even with the ups and downs, there’s a large senior class this season that continues to give maximum effort every time they take the field.

Keyvon Webb is one of Hamilton County’s senior leaders.

The relationships he has formed with teammates and his love for the game is what keeps Webb going strong.

“I moved here from Miami in seventh grade. Ever since I’ve been here, I really like the people I’m working with,” Webb said. “Going out there on Friday nights and playing together, win or lose, the fellowship and the family is the best part.”

Not only is he a great teammate, Webb is also a major contributor. The running back and defensive back has made an impact on both sides of the ball for the Trojans.

He came in as a freshman and contributed right away with 225 yards rushing and a seven tackles in 2015. As a sophomore, he rushed for 383 yards and made 18 tackles despite missing three games because of a shoulder injury.

“He does everything,” senior teammate Brantley Hawkins said of Webb. “He brings us leadership, skills on offense and defense. He’s one of the leading rushers and tacklers.”

Webb led HCHS in rushing in 2017 (66 carries, 281 yards, three touchdowns), and now he’s putting together a strong senior campaign.

Playing against Union County this preseason, Webb had another setback as he suffered a serious ankle injury. But that hasn’t keep him out of the lineup.

“You can see he’s got a limp, but he’s still out here going 100 percent on every play,” teammate Bailey Hawkins said of Webb. “He’s always focused and ready to play.”

Webb’s focus now is on Hamilton County’s next game — a homecoming matchup against North Florida Educational Institute.

The Trojans defeated NFEI last year for their only win of the season.

“We want to keep the homecoming tradition of winning,” Webb said. “Give the fans something to look forward to.

“We’ve been having some good practices and we’re ready for Friday.”
