No positive coronavirus results so far locally

THOMASVILLE — Archbold officials said fewer than 10 people have been tested for COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, and there have been no positive results as of Sunday morning.

Local health, public safety and other officials met Sunday afternoon in a planning meeting at the Thomas County Emergency Services Center.

Archbold also is opening a testing site Monday morning and only those who have a written order from their doctor will be allowed to be tested. The testing site will be near the  Archbold Urgent Care, at the spot of the former OneBlood facility.

Of those tested at Archbold so far for the coronavirus, not all the results have been completed.

The Georgia Department of Public Health has reported 99 cases in the state so far, with one death as a result of coronavirus.

Archbold also has put in new visitor policies for its facilities. Patients at Archbold Hospital are limited to one visitor at a time and visitors at the long-term care facilities, unless approved by the home administrator or in the case of a patient’s change in health, are not permitted.

Archbold also is asking all employees and visitors to avoid using the emergency department entrance. Patients seeking emergency care may use the emergency department entrance.

Publix has announced it will be closing its store at 8 p.m. nightly to allow staff to clean and restock. The Lakeland, Florida-based chain is putting that into effect for all its stores. Also, Walmart has announced it will be closing stores from 11 p.m.-6 a.m. to allow employees to clean and restock the store.
