Colquitt County’s Amber Moore wins Georgia Farm Bureau Art Contest

MACON, Ga. – Amber Moore was recently named the state winner of the 23rd Annual Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) Art Contest.

A senior at Colquitt County High, Moore receives a $250 cash prize and an additional $100 for being the top applicant from District 9. She is the daughter of Sherry and Deric Moore.

A winner was selected from each of GFB’s 10 districts. The state winner and two runners-up were chosen from the 10 district winners. Open to any Georgia high school student (grades 9-12), 55 submissions were received in total.

Sponsored by Georgia Farm Bureau and SunTrust Bank, Middle Georgia, applicants were judged on artistic merit and how well the artwork represented Georgia agriculture.

“The annual Georgia Farm Bureau Art Contest serves as a mechanism to promote agricultural education in the classroom. We strive to engage students through educational outreach about agriculture, the top economic contributor to our state economy,” Georgia Farm Bureau President Gerald Long said. “Amber is to be commended for winning this contest. We had many talented entries this year.”

The Georgia Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee coordinated the statewide contest. Locally, Colquitt County Farm Bureau coordinated the contest.

“It is an absolute pleasure to announce Amber as the state and district winner Georgia Farm Bureau Art Contest. Of all 55 entries, she demonstrated talent and creativity, while skillfully highlighting Georgia agriculture,” said Colquitt County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee Chairman Greta Collins. “On behalf of Colquitt County and GFB, I would like to thank the students and teachers who participated in our art contest, increasing the awareness of Georgia agriculture and the significant impact it has on our daily lives.”

Moore received an honorable mention award at the district level of the 2017 Congressional Art Competition in April and Best of Show in the Colquitt County Arts Center’s Youth Art Month contest in March. All three awards are based on different artworks.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, district and state activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors.
