4-H’ers compete at area and state poultry judging contests

TIFTON — Tift County 4-H poultry judging teams competed at the area and state poultry judging contests. The area contest was held at the Tift County Extension Office on May 1st.

The 4-Hers that competed in the area contest were: 8th graders Amare Woods and Walker Barry, 9th graders Sydney Pridgon, Dana Wells, and Seth Jones, 10th graders Lydia Connell and Jordan Daniels and 11th grader Pashen Barthell.

Woods received fourth highest individual junior. Wells and Pridgon received fourth and fifth highest individual seniors. Connell also placed in the top 10.

The senior team placed second at the area contest qualifying them for state.

The state contest was held in Athens  on May 11th, and that team consisted of Pridgon, Wells, Jones and Connell. The State team placed second with Jones placing second highest individual, Pridgon placing tenth highest individual, and the team is now eligible to compete in the National Avian Bowl held in Kentucky.

Team coaches were Ashley Carroll, 4-H agent, and Miles Drummond, 4-H AmeriCorps member.
