Lambda Xi Omega soars to greater heights of service and sisterhood

The ladies of Lambda Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated recently revealed they are up under a new administration led by International President and CEO Danette Anthony Reed. Under the new administration, the Sorority’s focus is centered on “Strengthen Our Sisterhood,” “Empower Our Families,” “Build Economic Wealth,” “Advocate for Social Justice,” “Enhance Our Environment,” and “Uplift Our Local Communities”. Since 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has provided service to all mankind and improved the lives of people worldwide. The legacy of the beloved sorority stretches through over 325,000 college-trained women.

Under the leadership of chapter president Dr. Makisha Cheeks, the local chapter has taken off with new program initiatives around the chapter’s service areas:  Bainbridge, Thomas County, Pelham, and Moultrie. The organization has supplied snacks to Thomas County Central High School, Thomasville High School, and Cairo High School Football Athletes.

In efforts to improve community involvement and support area schools, members attended the 2022-2023 State of Thomasville City Schools District Address with Superintendent Dr. Raymond Bryant, on September 29th. The chapter is planning to increase its support to designated area schools through supplemental educational resources and activities. In doing so Lambda Xi Omega has already placed little library houses, where children are able to gain access to free reading material in Thomasville and Moultrie. The emphasis on education is present in today’s Alpha Kappa Alpha women. In addition, members of the chapter’s book club, made a financial contribution to the Archbold Foundation in memory of Mrs. Henrietta McQueen, who was a longtime volunteer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and a busy one for the chapter. Members volunteered with Archbold’s Live Better Pink 5K, in support of breast cancer awareness by distributing water to participants. Under the “Enhance Our Environment” initiative, Lambda Xi Omega is encouraging communities to commit to waste reduction in eco-friendly practices to reduce household waste. Members will be seen throughout the month canvassing for voter awareness in preparation for the November 8th General Election.

The commitment to service and sisterhood continues to move Lambda Xi Omega forward and soar. To learn more about Lambda Xi Omega chapter follow them on Facebook and support their program activities.
