Two months after Ed Pilcher resigned following five seasons with the Bearcats, the Decatur County Board of Education approved the hiring of Cairo defensive coordinator Jeff Littleton on Thursday.

“This is very exciting opportunity for me,” Littleton said. “I’m really pleased that Bainbridge has given me this opportunity and the things that they are allowing me to do.

“I’m expected to come in and bring this community back together and get these kids motivated and hopefully I can do those things.”

The Bearcats went 30-23 in Pilcher’s five seasons, however the former Thomas County Central head coach wasn’t able to lead Bainbridge to any postseason wins during his time at Bainbridge.

Littleton, meanwhile, has spent the past eight seasons with the Syrupmakers, helping coach Tom Fallaw and Cairo to an 85-19 record including a Class AAA state championship in 2008 and a state runner-up finish in 2007. The former Worth County standout also has coached at Dooly County, Worth and Tift County.
