- GETTING INVOLVED: Rotary Club members brought their children out to help at this past Saturday’s Fresh For You Produce Market, which provides individuals in need with fresh, healthy produce at no cost.
THOMASVILLE- Rotary Club of Thomasville made a big impact on the community at their “Fresh For You — Free Produce Market.” In partnership with Second Harvest of South Georgia and Marguerite Neel Williams Boys & Girls Club, Rotary served a total of 253 households in the Thomasville-Thomas County community on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
In 2021, during Rotary Club of Thomasville’s 100th year, the club embarked on a mission to discover the most critical needs in the Thomasville-Thomas County community. The results showed that diabetes, heart issues, and other health concerns impacted a higher percentage of the residents compared to other parts of the country. But, they didn’t stop there. Rotary Club of Thomasville saw an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the quality of life for their neighbors by addressing this issue head-on.
Rotary Club of Thomasville’s initiative to provide fresh, healthy foods to the underserved community members has been incredibly successful. Each month, their “Fresh For You — Free Produce Market” offers a diverse selection of nutritious fruits, vegetables, proteins, and other healthy goodies.
Thanks to the members’ and community’s unwavering support, an average of 225 households, representing approximately 900 individuals, have benefited from this program. In its very first year, the market proudly served over 2,290 households, making a difference in the lives of about 9,160 individuals in total.
Rotary Club of Thomasville and its members encourage the community of Thomasville to celebrate the power and the joy of giving back. Together, they believe the club and community can build a healthier, happier future for Thomasville and Thomas County, one fresh produce at a time.
