THOMASVILLE- Local artist organization, Pines & Palms, is excited to announce the upcoming exhibition “Transcendence — The Power of Contemporary Expression.” The exhibit will run from September 16 — 22, at the Covey Nest, 210 W. Jackson Street in Thomasville.
This curated exhibition will showcase the selected works of numerous emerging, and established, contemporary artists. The show will highlight the diversity of local artists, who express their vision through mediums and styles that push the boundaries of conventional art.
Featured artist is Earl D. Washington, from Tallahassee, Florida. Washington, who is primarily a ceramicist, also works in a wide range of other mediums, including photography, calligraphy, and collage.
Among other notable, local artists showing their works are Dixie Lee Hedrington-Miller, Emily McKenna, Lindsay Hogan, Kristine Jones, Margo Ruffin, and Pines & Palms Director, Sandi Shaw.
Hedrington-Miller was recently celebrated for the inclusion of her piece “The Pecan Orchard,” in the upcoming “Art of Georgia” exhibition at the Georgia Governor’s Mansion and the State Capitol.
Ruffin, who earned Best in Show at the recent THOM Collective exhibition of the Thomasville Center of the Arts will display several pieces from her latest series.
McKenna, Hogan and Jones have each been featured in issues of this year’s Thomasville Scene Magazine.
Shaw, who started Pines & Palms in Thomasville, said she’s excited about this exhibition.
“This is a big departure from our previous exhibits. It’s an exciting opportunity to showcase the talents of our local abstract and contemporary artists.”
Shaw is well known for spearheading the annual “High Cotton Plein Air Paintout,” which typically attracts a more conventional group of artists. This annual event will be held October 3-7 in Thomasville.
While most of the artists participating in September’s “Transcendence” are local, works from as far away as California will be displayed. There is currently an open call to all contemporary artists who are interested in showing and selling their work in this unique event.
During the opening day event, the public will have the opportunity to meet the artists, engage in stimulating conversation, and witness firsthand the transformative power of contemporary art. All are invited to attend the reception, on September 15, 2023, from 6:30- 8:30 p.m., at the Covey Nest.
Don’t miss the chance to experience this exceptional showcase of contemporary art. Prepare to be inspired, moved, and transformed. All works are available to purchase.
