The Thomas County School System reported a very smooth opening for the 2022-2023 school year.

“You could feel the excitement from our youngest learners at Hand-in-Hand Primary School where children were beginning their first day of formal education all the way to Thomas County Central where seniors were celebrating their last first day of high school,” Superintendent Dr. Lisa Williams said. “I was able to visit every school and most classrooms in the system on the first day of school, and I was pleased to see many smiling faces.”

There were no accidents reported on the first day of school, and the schools reported an effortless parent and bus drop-off process.

Dr. Williams added, “I would like to thank our SROs and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Department with traffic control on and around our campuses. The back-to-school traffic flowed smoothly and safely thanks to their assistance. We look forward to an amazing school year and appreciate the continued support of our parents and community members.”
