Police say Whigham resident Jacquelyn Hines was traveling eastbound on Highway 84 when she struck Hurst. Hines, 29, told police she saw Hurst standing in the roadway but did not have enough time to react.

The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 84 East and Third Avenue Northeast.

Hines is not currently facing charges, though the police department is continuing to investigate the crash. Lt. Dewayne Pearson, the lead investigator on the case, said there are no pending charges against Hines as of early Monday afternoon.

Authorities say Hurst was walking south across Highway 84 when she was struck head-on. Police do not believe Hines was speeding or otherwise distracted at the time of the crash, which occurred in a 35 mph zone.

Hurst was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital but did not survive her injuries.

Hines complained of injuries but was not treated on-scene.
