THOMASVILLE — The first Inspection in the Streets for Thomasville Police Chief Letteney also helped usher in the Rose Show and Festival.

It was also the department’s first Inspection in the Streets since 2019, after the COVID-19 pandemic led to its, and that of the rest of the Rose Show and Festival’s, cancellation.

“Tonight, you will witness first-hand the pride, professionalism and preparation of the men and women of the Thomasville Police Department,” Letteney said.

Letteney said the annual public inspection is unique and it hasn’t been done in other agencies in which he’s served.

“In the few months I’ve been a part of the department and the Thomasville community, I’ve come to learn this kind of outreach, assuring that your officers are ready, equipped and prepared to address our public safety needs,” he said.

The inspection also allows the public to meet and interact with the department’s officers, Letteney pointed out.

“You will help us enhance our relationship with those who we serve,” he said, “and hopefully, learn more about the Thomasville Police Department is ready to protect you and your families and all who come to Thomasville to work, vacation and enjoy what this community has to offer.”

Letteney, who took office in January, said in the few months he’s been on the job he has learned what he said the community already knows about the TPD.

“Simply stated — they are dedicated, committed, professional men and women who have stepped up to serve this community for respect and dignity for all through their chosen profession of law enforcement,” he said.

Letteney said he was grateful for the work the department’s officers put in every day. He also thanked Sheriff Carlton Powell and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office for answering calls in the city during the department’s inspection.

The entire TPD, 63 officers-strong, and its various commands all took part in the inspection.

“What you do in service to this community matters,” Letteney said. “It matters to our elected representatives, our administration, our community and to me. You serve with dedication and distinction each and every day.”
